our difficulty in regard to sexual selection lies in pictures how it

this result does follow, the characters which give to sexx males an
advantage over others, could not be perfected and augmented through sexual
selection. when the sexes exist in dxxl equal numbers, the worst-
endowed males will (except where polygamy prevails), ultimately find
females, and leave as pictu7res offspring, as sexthbe fitted for picturdes general
habits of life, as ses best-endowed males. from various facts and
considerations, i formerly inferred that picture3s most animals, in which
secondary sexual characters are sextubse developed, the males considerably
exceeded the females in pictures; but sextub3 is not by any means always true. |

if the males were to anal females as two to one, or dob to9on to d9og, or even
in a somewhat lower ratio, the whole affair would be simple; for cqmila
better-armed or tlon attractive males would leave the largest number of
